Summary

I hold a M.Sc. degree in computer science with a specialization in Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), the interdisciplinary field between computer science and social sciences. I have a multidisciplinary background covering computer science, psychology, cognitive science, philosophy, and information systems. I have a research background focused on quality assurance of software from a user perspective, specifically Usability and User Experience. Part of this research has been about bridging the gap between academic and practical UX. In addition, I have participated in educating the next generation of UX-designers and computer scientists.

Recent years, I have worked i the IT-sector with UX at The Danish State Railways (DSB), with corporate domain portfolio management at Thomsen Trampedach (Questel), and am now an IT-architect at the Agency for Digital Government.

Research & projects

  • Facilitating Redesign with Design Cards

When developing new HCI design concepts the idea of using design cards to facilitate the process and creativity has been explored in several different fields. In usability engineering a challenge for developers is how to correct usability problems, especially non-trivial problems. In a current study we decided to explorer if including design cards in redesign workshops would improve the proposed redesigns.
  • Active Involvement of Software Developers in Usability Engineering

In practical usability engineering feedback is only useful if it cost effectively leads to design changes. Research has shown positive results both when providing developers with redesign proposals, and when actively involving software developers in the redesign process. Through facilitation and lecturing in interaction design provided by usability specialists, we wanted to further explorer potential advantages of actively involving developers in a collaborative redesign process.
  • Virtual Organizations - Collaboration in Scientific Communities (2011-2012)

It is more common with larger and more distributed research groups. Particular since many disciplines are required in a development process. In this project we have developed and studied the use of an iPad app for conducting qualitative research. The main concept is that software can help a group both collecting, sharing and analyzing data.
Advisors: Louise Barkhuus, Ph.D, & Barry Brown, Ph.D, University of California, San Diego.
  • Mobile Use of Online Social Networks (2010-2012)

Since Online Social Networks have gained huge popularity and smartphones are becoming very common we decided to investigate how online social networks are used from mobile phones. We conducted 52 semi-structured interviews of American university students.
Advisor: Louise Barkhuus, Ph.D. University of California, San Diego.
  • Video Integration in Social Media (2009-2010)

In this project we studied video microblogging - the broadcasting of short video clips. We examined the use and practices surrounding this new social media phenomenon through a series of semi-structured interviews.
Advisor: Louise Barkhuus, Ph.D. University of California, San Diego.
  • Renewable Energy Research Program (2009)

Research course in renewable and sustainable energy. We presented a proposal for implementing access to electrical bikes at the campus of University of California, Santa Cruz.
Advisor: Joel Kubby, Ph.D. University of California, Santa Cruz.
  • Human Factors in Computer Information Security (2008)

Risks in information security are often the result of violations by the users. In this project we investigated information security violations in a large US based public organization.
Advisor: Peter Hoonakker, Ph.D, University of Wisconsin-Madison.
