This partnership is called RewardsPlus. MileagePlus is offering a status match to Marriott gold elite status and better options for transferring points between the two programs. The status match is available to the following United Mileage Plus elite members: Premier Gold, Premier Platinum, Premier 1K and Global Services.

A status match to Marriott Rewards Gold Elite status gives you:

Lounge access and breakfast at select Marriott locations

Room upgrades

Complimentary Internet access

Priority late check-out

25% bonus points and much more

Full terms are available here.

The status match can be requested here.

The downside is that the status match to Marriott gold status only is valid through January 31, 2014. However, it’s a nice benefit for if you happen to be staying at a Marriott property during this period. I recently requested the status match and my Marriott account was almost upgraded to gold status immediately and the physical card arrived a few weeks later.

All members of MileagePlus, even no status holders, can use the new options for the transferring points between the two programs. All premier members get a better exchange rate when transferring miles.

The general outline of the RewardsPlus miles and points benefits:

New Miles-to-Points Transfer: RewardsPlus is introducing the ability for Premier members (at all levels) to convert MileagePlus award miles into Marriott Rewards points at a 1-to-1 ratio, up to 50,000 miles per year.

Improved Points-to-Miles Transfer: RewardsPlus is improving the rate at which all members can convert their Marriott Rewards points into MileagePlus miles by offering a 20% discount off the number of points required for miles. This will be the leading conversion rate for transfer of Marriott Rewards points into airline miles.

Improved Mileage Earning on Travel Packages: RewardsPlus is offering 10% more MileagePlus award miles when members redeem for a Marriott Rewards Air and Hotel Travel package using points transferred from a Marriott Rewards account, a bonus of up to 12,000 miles.

Read more about the program and signup at the RewardsPlus website.

A few months ago United Airlines announced that new benefits have been added to the partnership between United MileagePlus and Marriott Rewards.
